Summertime, and the living may not be that easy

August, oh how many students and teachers dread you while football fans just adore you! Yes, this is the time of year that gives us mixed emotions. It may be the end of summer and the start of a school year for some or simply just another month for others. With a new month and a new season, the transition may not be too easy for some of us. Transitions can be scary, worrisome, but also "anxiously exciting". How can we prepare for a smooth transition? Below are some tips for you to try!

 

1. Stay in the here and now. It is easy to get caught up in the mindset of fall boots, pumpkin spice, and American football, however practicing being in the here and now, allows for us to make each day count. Being in the here and now, allows for us to take a step back and appreciate what we have in front of us each day. 

 

2. August can be great! Even though the weather is hot and humid, right now is a great time to find a cool spot, relax and write down your thoughts. Use your last few days of vacation to reflect on your summer:

  • How did you perform? For yourself? For others? 

  • What did you learn about yourself?              

  • What are you proud of?

  • What can you take away from this summer that will be helpful for you in the fall?

 

3. Set goals. What do you want to achieve this fall? Whether it is big or small, focus on one thing. This will allow you to narrow your focus and prevent you from feeling overwhelmed. As we know, once fall comes, it is off to the races; Halloween, then before you know it is Christmas. Make the time now to bring your goal or goals to focus. Make a plan with steps to how you will achieve those goals.
