Raegan Moore,
LPC
Raegan Moore is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Arizona and a former Division I and professional basketball player who turned her own athletic journey—perfectionism, performance anxiety, and the identity struggles that came with it—into her life's work.
She's provided mental health support at the Power 4 collegiate level across the ACC, Big 12, and NCHC, working with individual athletes and full teams alike.
Her approach blends Person-Centered therapy, CBT, and mindfulness techniques, with a particular focus on performance anxiety, perfectionism, and the transitions athletes face throughout their careers—injury, being cut, retirement, or stepping away on their own terms.
Raegan's goal is simple: to give athletes the kind of support she wished she'd had—one that sees them as whole people, not just performers.

My Story:
"Sports have given me opportunities and experiences throughout my life that I will
forever be grateful for. They have placed me on teams that have become more like
family, paid for not one but four degrees, taken me across the country and world, and
taught me skills that have been transferable into my everyday life.
Sports have also given me perfectionistic tendencies, a fear of mistakes, anxiety about
measuring up, and a lack of identity outside of being an athlete. From high school to
college to playing professionally, I carried all of this with me but was never able to fully
process it. A typical therapist didn’t understand what it was like to be an athlete, while a
performance coach was primarily focused on my performance on the court. The support
I needed then is the support I aim to provide to athletes now—whether they are trying
out for their first middle school team, starting their first high school game, finding their
role on a collegiate team, or representing their country on the Olympic stage. While
mental health and sport performance are sometimes viewed as separate entities, they
are far more connected than they are different.
I fell in love with psychology after taking an Intro to Psychology course during my senior
year of high school. At the time, Sport Psychology was still a growing area, and there
was no clear path for how to work in the field. I attended Duquesne University on a
basketball scholarship, majoring in Psychology, with the hope that my path would
somehow lead me to Sport Psychology. Throughout my time at Duquesne, I found
success on the court, and instead of applying to graduate programs during my senior
year, I was applying for visas to play professionally overseas.
After playing professionally and later coaching collegiately, my passion for Sport
Psychology eventually found its way back to me. In 2020, I sat down and asked myself
what I wanted my life to look like. Within a year, I was attending Georgia State
University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. During graduate school, I was
fortunate to combine my love of sports and psychology while working with men’s
basketball as a Learning Specialist, focusing on executive functioning skills such as
organization, time management, and academic support.
I graduated from Georgia State University in 2023 and obtained my National Certified
Counselor (NCC) credential shortly after passing the National Counselor Examination
(NCE). I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Arizona.
Over the past several years, I have had the opportunity to work within collegiate
athletics at the Power 4 level, including experience supporting student-athletes and
teams within the ACC, Big 12, and National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). My
work has included individual mental health counseling, team-based support, sport
performance concerns, psychoeducation, and consultation with coaches and staff.
Working across different sports and team environments has allowed me to develop a
broad understanding of the unique mental and emotional demands placed on collegiate
athletes. In addition to direct clinical work, I have been involved in mental health
outreach within collegiate athletic departments, helping increase awareness, reduce
stigma, normalize conversations around mental health, and connect student-athletes
with appropriate resources and support.
My approach is grounded in a Person-Centered conceptualization, utilizing Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy (CBT) interventions and incorporating mindfulness techniques such
as breathwork, progressive muscle relaxation, and guided meditation. I believe effective
support for athletes requires looking beyond performance and understanding the whole
person—their identity, relationships, transitions, challenges, and experiences both within
and outside of sport.
I specialize in performance anxiety, perfectionism, and life transitions, with a particular
interest in the transitions that occur throughout an athlete’s career and identity
development. This includes navigating changes in role, injury, being cut, retirement, or
choosing to step away from sport on one’s own terms.
My goal is to provide athletes
with the kind of support I wish I had throughout my own athletic journey: a space where
they can be understood as both athletes and people, while developing the tools to thrive
in sport and in life beyond it."
